Webinar - Windows, Cladding, and Continuous Insulation for Steel Frame Walls
Description:
Continuous insulation is a critical component to limit thermal bridging in steel frame walls and is necessary to achieve energy code compliance. Continuous insulation also must be properly integrated with windows and cladding to maximize overall performance and achieve building code compliance. This course will present energy code requirements, address moisture control principles and building code requirements, and then specifically focus on details to integrate windows and cladding efficiently and effectively with continuous insulation, particularly foam plastic insulated sheathings. The course will focus on above-grade walls of cold-formed steel construction, but it also has applicability to other types of wall construction.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand continuous insulation and the multi-functional roles it can play in a building envelope.
- Learn key principles of moisture control and how they are implemented in the building code in coordination with energy code requirements for continuous insulation.
- Learn building code requirements for water resistive barriers and flashing for above-grade walls.
- Learn ways to detail exterior cladding installation over continuous insulation to minimize thermal bridging and improve moisture control.
- Learn ways to detail exterior fenestration installations for optimal performance and integration with continuous insulation.
